Does all the pieces we do in an MMORPG need to be motivated by a reward? I used to be occupied with that the opposite day in Lord of the Rings Online once I was questing with my level-capped character. I wasn’t getting any progression-pumping XP any extra, so I didn’t must do it. But I genuinely needed to, partially for the sake of completion and partially as a result of I don’t thoughts questing for the story alone.
I assume it’s all in the way you outline “rewards” for quests. There are the rewards that builders code in to the completion display screen, after which there are much less tangible rewards just like the expertise of doing it and the lore that comes with it.
In order a thought experiment at present, I’ll toss out this: Would you do MMO quests if there have been no gear, financial, or development rewards hooked up? Would you do them for the sake of doing them alone? And are there specific MMOs by which this could be extra true than others for you?
